I got this sandbox when my son was 2, he is now 3 and he's still playing with this sandbox. I think it is the perfect size for him, he sometimes gets inside but mostly just played with it sitting down. I just put two bags of play sand and it was ok, I think I can put 3 but I never do.

My 21-mos old grandson has had this sandbox for several weeks, and he enjoys playing in it every time he comes to stay with Grandma. The lid fits securely, and I don't have to worry about it flying off with the wind. I bought this particular sandbox because it reminds me of the one my sons had when they where little. Also, this sandbox has a lid to keep the neighborhood cats out of it when my grandson isn't playing in it.

My daughter loves this sandbox! It is amazing! Not very big, not very small. Fits for 2-3 children perfectly! or 1 child and 1 adult (but for adult it is pretty difficult to arrange legs around the sandbox haha 🙂 )

I saw a lot of reviews saying assembly was a pain, and after reading the directions I can see how it would be confusing as far as trying to match the pieces to the photos.
With that being said, we got it assembled fairly quickly, all the wood is in good shape(no splintering or breaks in wood).
We used 8 bags of play sand 50lb bags from Lowes. Was the perfect amount, could add 1 or 2 more no problem though.
The benches are sturdy, once closed and covered, I wouldnt really say its sturdy to walk on, but I also dont see any reason why you'd need to. If my kiddos did, it would hold up just fine!

Overall, SO glad we picked this. Cost effective, it's sturdy (followed directions!!), and the kids love it! Obviously i am not sure how it will hold up over time just yet, but I'm sure itll do just fine.

Update: lots of fun still! Overall pretty pleased. Will say... I get now what the other reviews meant about the benches breaking, happens easier than it should! Screws are small so they dont go through the wood, but they dont hold as well as we had hoped with the benches. Still, not a bad purchase and easy/quick to fix. Also, not a huge deal, but trying to lay the "fabric" down was a pain. We had to level our sandbox a little and I wish the fabric piece had been just a little bigger than the sandbox so there was wiggle room. Both my toddlers can fit well and theres enough space to play comfortably & they are obsessed, so I'd say it's still a win!

Now if I could just find a way to keep the kids from removing all the sand by filling buckets and making a beach in the yard🤭

I am not going to say that the sand doesn’t get wet because it does however, SO WHAT! Kids are kids. Buy “play sand” & it will not be an issue. We have 2 sets of twins & they absolutely love the sand box.

Also the bench seats are very sturdy. I’m like 218lbs & they hold me just fine. Even my 10 year old plays in the sandbox with the little ones.

I’m glad we purchased this & did not listen to all the negative reviews. Honestly the sand getting wet could be my husband & I’s fault because we’re not perfect & we don’t follow every direction like we should but we’re happy. Our kids are happy with it. It folds open & closed. Great purchase. Only thing I would suggest is getting like a little canopy if your kids are fair skinned but mine aren’t so it’s not an issue. Also if you aren’t a fan of the sand getting wet( which DOES NOT hurt play sand) then buy a covering as extra protection.

All in all, I’m glad we purchased & our children are happy.

This is a great size for our one year old for more and to grow into. I can sit on the bench or next to the box and lean comfortably. The wood is all straight and the hardware is sturdy. The directions aren't perfectly clear but we still got it together in under an hour.

It has 8 50 pound bags of sand and could have more when he starts digging.

I got this for my son when he was a year old. He's now going to be turning four and we're still happy with it.

Things I've learned:
- When the sandbox lid is on, the holes on the base opposite the digger that look like you would put a pole in them? Drill holes in the bottom so they drain or nasty, smelly, buggy things will happen when it rains.
- The lid is not waterproof! It seems like it would be but nope.
- I can't lift this when it's full. 50 lbs is not the problem, it's the weight and shape and lack of built in grip space combined. I may consider putting a tarp under it this year, to drag it around, and fold over in the rain.
- I would suck up the cost of refilling and just empty it at the end of the season. Mine stayed out on the patio all winter in WI and had a nasty green pond scummy layer on top the sand when I opened it.

My little guy asks to play in the sandbox every day. I thought the interest would wane but not so far.

Ours came with holes in the bottom of the storage cups, so apparently that issue has been fixed. We drilled a few holes in the bottom of the main part for drainage. We filled ours with 1 bag of pea gravel. It seems very sturdy-- we've picked it up and moved it a few times with the gravel in it. My biggest "helper" even dropped one end of it about a foot onto the concrete and it didn't crack. My 4 kids-- aged 24 months to almost 10-- love our "quarry". The youngest two--aged 24 months and 4.5 years--play in it every day and we've had it for a week so far. They all like playing on the lid play space more than I expected. The lid does get gravel stuck in the cracks when it's attached for play, which makes it hard to slide apart again in the evening, but I found that I can just flick them out with a spoon handle and then it's fine. I bought some dinosaur bones to hide in there, as requested by my 9- year- old. The built- in digger is great although it does make removing and replacing the lid a little tricky because it's slightly wider than the lid opening there. ( Maybe I have yet to figure out the trick to doing it better. UPDATE: The trick is to turn the digger to the side and then slide the lid into place). It's been rained on a couple times but stayed dry inside, although getting wet is not as much of a problem with pea gravel and drainage holes. The kids all love the toys that came with it and they use the ramp formed by the lid connected.
Perfect size for our apartment space. The littles can fit inside (one at a time) and the biggers can play sensory- bin style.
We're very happy with our purchase and the price we paid.

What a great little sandbox! We recently purchased this for our son's 3rd birthday, and it's been a very solid investment! For a little guy obsessed with trucks and construction, it's a perfect match. He now has a "sand plant" that he works, and in the 2 months that we've owned it, it's easily gotten 75 hours of use!

It's small. Don't expect several kids to get in it, it's not that large. This is a bonus for me personally, because he (with parents or friends) can gather around it and play, but not come away with sand in unmentionable places. But be warned if you're looking for one that kids get inside and move around, this isn't the one for you.

I love that it has a lid, I'm secure in knowing that cats roaming the neighborhood won't borrow it. The fact that the lid also becomes part of the play area when off is fantastic in my mind, and truly raises the value. Be aware that it's not on hinges, it slides over slots as both the lid and when you attach it to become a ramp/road for the truck.

All of the extra tools and the truck it comes with are a very nice bonus. The crane is so much fun for him (and me!) and I expect that he'll continue to play with this for a few years at least.

My son received this sandbox two years ago and it’s still in perfect condition regardless of wind, rain, snow or extreme heat. It holds 2-3 bags of sand but 3 is putting it to the rim. It had 2 spots that kids can sit although my son and friends prefer to sit in it. Two toddlers fit nicely together. The lid is perfect for protecting from weather. My mom has since purchased this sand box for the other two grandchildren since it was such a hit. I hope you purchase and enjoy as well.

Got this sandbox for our dogs who like to bury their bone. Best money we ever spent! This entertains them all afternoon and even though we put the lid on at night, they quickly figured out how to take it off. Very durable!

We got this for our 2 year old. He loves playing in it. We have not had any problems with the lid flying off or anything like that. Shipped faster than expected.

Very funny. I particularly liked the "Fidel Castro" scenes.

Kind of weird 70s movie. Lots of day dreaming going on. I have seen a lot of Barbra Streisand movies and I was just thinking how funny it is that she seems to fit more than her fair share of black maids into her films. Her mother brings her own maid to her apartment in this film, Funny Girl and Funny Lady -- black maid, and even in "For Pete's Sake", where she lives in a tiny 4 room apartment and can't afford to pay her bills or buy pot roast, yet she doesn't work and her husband is a cab driver, she has a self-proclaimed 'colored woman' come in to clean every week. Kind of funny in a weird way. Still enjoy her movies and this one too.

I don't think there is a streisand film as good as this one.made in 1972 during the second wave of feminism a woman tries to find her way in the womans lib era yet be herself regardless of what peers think.

~ The Toybox Kids Home Daycare & Preschool

I run a home daycare and this table works perfectly. I bought two, one to have as a sand table, the other as a dirt/construction table. The lids work to keep out rain. Those complaining about this must have not secured the lid properly. There is a bungee cord on both ends that secure onto a hook. I owned an older version of a similar Step 2 sand table, same type of lid, never an issue.

I purchased this for my toddler since I am doing my best to keep him occupied and busy. Anything to prevent the urge to give him screen time. Well this sand table accomplishes that task for like 20 minutes. So I just need something to figure out to do for the rest of the 13 hours. This table seems pretty sturdy and is constantly moved by me without having any signs of instability. I put 25lbs of premium $$$ sand (which is another story) and seems like a good amount. States that it can hold up to 40lbs comfortably but I think any movement of the sand at that amount would cause it to spill over. One of the best features of this sand table is that it has a lid that tightens and secures it. My Wife is scared of sand fleas (which again is another story) and this keeps the boogie man away. I recommend it for a backyard for a toddler.

UPDATE: we had some terrible storms come through and when I opened up the sandbox after the yard had dried out there was water sitting in it so my husband drilled a couple tiny holes in the bottom no big deal but this box has done very well up until those storms not holding water and/or drying out with the regular rainshowers we have had
My 1yo son, my almost 3yo daughter and her almost 5yo friend all enjoy this. I put this together pretty quickly although I did have to "shave" the plastic inside one of the holes for the legs because it was warped but luckily I had a boxcutter nearby so no big deal. Used a 50lb bag of sand no problem and it dires out quickly when it rains. It comes with 2 bear claws, a shovel, a bucket and I can't remember what else but it does come with some cute accessories to get the kiddies started playing and all the included toys fit inside the sandbox with the lid closed. And the top of the lid is a car track how cute is that I am a happy mama thank you!

I don't mean to brag, but I'm a genius (but only in regards to solving your sagging wet cover issues.) PUT A KIDDY POOL UNDER THE COVER! It prevents water from pooling on the cover during a rain storm and helps prevent tears in the cover. It also keeps all toys contained under something to prevent holes getting poked in the cover and is great for storing your kids pool. You're welcome.

Lori Lawrence

Per my five-year-old grandson on a scale of 1 to 5 this sandbox is a five. I would have deducted a star for the damaged wood but Customer Service shipped me out replacement pieces the same day I called. My 3 replacement pieces arrived in 2 days.

Before assembly be sure to inspect all your pieces for damage. Once you assemble, staple the liner to the bottom so it doesn’t slide away. It seemed easy to assemble to me as I had read all the other reviews ahead of time.
Tools I needed to assemble:
Cordless drill with Phillips bit (or screwdriver) and staple gun
Wheelbarrow to haul all the sand that Lowe’s loaded on my truck😊

I filled ours with 1000 lbs of play sand and plan to add more. The more sand, the less the cover will sag and collect water when it rains. Speaking of the cover, it feels thin and cheap. I expect it to tear, but we have had several hard rain and wind storms and it hasn’t blown off or leaked. I am pleasantly surprised. I added 2 pictures showing it filled with rain. The seams on corners stretch but have not torn. I plan to order a few extra covers from the mfg. for the future. In FL I expect the sun to wear it out within 6 months. I put 2 plastic containers in the middle filled with sand toys to elevate center. I didn’t want to elevate too much and tear cover. Still trying to find best way to spread sand underneath for minimal water retention.

Over Christmas, I had 5 children with new Tonka trucks digging away. We have also had many monster jam performances . Snow (Sand) Angels. Plenty of room!!! Even the older kids love it and there is a lot of room to be creative.

*5 month update - cover still hasn’t blown off, leaked or torn.

- Really nice cedar planks, it smells and looks really nice. Not sure how effective it is but I know cedar repels certain pests so that could be a plus as well
- Easy to put together (using two people makes it a breeze, but it's doable with one)
- Huge play area with planks to sit on top of sides
- Comes with its own soft cover and bottom (however they are not super effective, see below)
- We fit 900 lbs of sand in it, could easily fit more

- Delivered with three broken planks. We were easily able to use wood glue on them to mend and they are solid. The company offered to replace them as well, still waiting for delivery on that
- The black, water permeable, sheet for the bottom isn't connected to the sand box. We read reviews that indicted there were some issues with sand leaking out. Before we placed and filled it, we turned it over and used a staple gun to attach it to the bottom of the planks. Would highly recommend doing that but it still leaks a little regardless
- It comes with a vinyl cover which stretches to cover. It's the very devil to put on and takes two people to get it done efficiently. It also comes off when it's windy. We are going to attach some 3m hooks to the cover and the outside of the sandbox to hopefully take care of that issue.

Overall a really great purchase. The hardest part was lugging all the sand from the truck to the backyard. Company was very responsive to issues via email. Going to keep the review at 5 stars unless they don't come through on the replacement planks. Would highly recommend.

My sandbox came early and much bigger than I was expecting.
Yes, there are no screw holes but it’s very visible where they go and super easy to get them in.
I used a tube of clear drying Gorilla sealant($8.80 @ Walmart) on the inside around all corners/crevasses to avoid ants or losing any sand. The extra time it took to apply the sealant was well worth it since I know my daughter will want to play in this thing all day!
I’m curious to see how it does in the rain and If the lid will blow away when it’s windy but a tarp or a heavy rock(or something with weight)can very easily fix both(possible)problems.

I bought this sandbox for my two nephews, age 2 and 6 to use. I needed a lidded sandbox and something large enough for two kids to play in. This sandbox fit the bill perfectly! Assembly is a bit difficult - I would recommend assembling with another person on as level a surface as you can find. I didn't expect to have to drive the screws through the plastic instead of screw holes but the end result was fine. Make sure you get the screws good and tight and check that the four sides are even on the bottom before you attach the base. This will really help reduce any moisture leakage; we haven't had a problem. Despite having several wind advisory days, we haven't had any issues with the lid blowing off. The sandbox is under a tree for shade so we have found leaves in the box but that's an easy fix and there have been no issues with animals getting into the sandbox beyond the occasional confused ant. There is room for two kids in the box although it might be tight. The 6 year old prefers to sit on the grass outside. The toys that came with the sandbox were all fine - they were pretty general sand toys geared towards small kids and they've had fun playing with them. This has been a great purchase that the kids have enjoyed!

Suheily Ramirez

Pretty sturdy sandbox. My kids enjoy it and can sit in it at the same time(age 3 and 6) There's no holes for the screws to go into so you have to put some force into it at first. Once the screw pierces the plastic, it is easy to screw it in. While it is covered fully, some moisture still seeps in so our sand has turned a little clumpy but nothing drying it out won't fix. All in all we Re happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others.
