So far as I'm concerned, popcorn is a food group. I'm so obsessed with it, I grow my own from organic seed stock I got from a hippie who spent 20 years perfecting the variety to grow perfectly in my micro-climate. So yeah... I'm into popcorn.

I've made my own on the stove for years with the old saucepan and oil method. It's extremely dangerous; more than once I've nearly lit my kitchen on fire. It's fun to explain the scorch marks to my husband in a way that sounds like I should be trusted alone in a kitchen. So to save my marriage and my house, I gave this a try.

I was super skeptical that this do-dad would work for me. But it's actually - dare I say it - better than doing it on the stove. The popcorn comes out tender, though I haven't quite gotten my timing down right and I end up with about 15% old maids. My microwave is also possessed by the spirit of a disgruntled old man who stubbornly refuses to do anything in a timely manner, never moves over so you can pass him on the interstate, and has named his last 3 dogs Bob, Bob Jr., and Bob III, so that's probably not this silicone gizmos fault.

Pros:
- Tender popcorn
- Easy to clean
- Won't have to waste money on a divorce lawyer
- Pretty teal color
- I'm no longer on a first name basis with the local firemen

Cons:
- Some old maids, could be my microwave's fault.
- I'm no longer on a first name basis with the local firemen

First things first - FORGET about the reviews for this product stating that it doesn't pass the "pinch test." For those of you who want to know why, see the bottom paragraph for an explanation. Beyond that, this is a great unit! I've also seen review photos with scorched and burnt bottoms. Those are obviously from users not following the instructions. It clearly states that NO oil works the best, and it does. When properly filled, and placed in a powerful 1,000+ watt microwave oven, this popcorn popper works great! I wait until I hear about two or three seconds between pops, and I stop it. I see about one tablespoon of un-popped kernals (two when filled to the top line), but I'm using rather old popcorn. Even if that's normal, I don't care. The popcorn tastes GREAT! I even use the same bowl to serve the popcorn, contrary to what some people say. Sure, it's not a hard sturdy bowl. Just be careful, and you can eat right from the popper itself. Easy to clean, inexpensive, easy to store, and works great every time. I couldn't give it anything less than five stars. Now, for the science buffs, the reason you don't need to worry about the "pinch test" failures you read about in other reviews:

I did some research. I found out that the presence of some white or translucent silicone during a "pinch test" can be quite normal for this type of product. The tensile strength of the silicone used is a factor. When you stretch silicone, it can pull the color pigments in such a way that translucent silicone appears. All food grade silicone starts out as clear or white and then it is colored. Therefore, the product might show some translucent or white silicone when it's stretched. That doesn't mean it's no good, or unsafe, it's just not deeply colored. So, don't believe the conspiracy idiots who haven't done their research. They only follow . . . not research. It's BPA-free, and 100% safe to use. And, personally, I find absolutley no added flavor, good or bad, coming from this popper. You're welcome.

We've tried 3 different varieties of kernels (Jolly Time, Orville R, and Trader Joes brand) and many different cooking methods, but still can't ever get a full container full of popped corn. However, we can reliably now get 2/3 to 3/4 full with no burning. As long as you are willing to accept dumping a fair amount of un-popped kernels at the end, I think you will be happy with this popper. It is easy to use and clean, and none of that junk that is in bagged microwave popcorn.

Here's our method for getting the best out of this popper:

* Pre-heat the glass container by putting a little bit of water in it and microwaving it for 90 seconds. We find this helps yield more popcorn if the container starts out warm
* Dump the water and fully dry out the container
* Add 1 & 1/2 measured "scoops" of kernels, dry, no oil
* Pop for 3 minutes and 30 second (the ideal time will depend on your microwave YMMV)
* Do not use the silicone top to melt butter; if you want butter, melt that separately. This provides better coverage and makes the container easier to clean or to turn around and make another batch immediately.

I wanted to get our family away from ordering cases of single-serve popcorn bags as well as microwave popcorn. This did the trick. It only holds a half-serving, which I like. The air popper in our cabinet has to be full or it blows half the kernels out, and once it's popped it's hard to restrain yourself from eating 8 servings.

It worked with the popcorn setting on my microwave that determines how long to pop on its own. (How does it know?) It worked the same when I put some olive oil in the bottom so salt and "yeast food" would stick afterward. No issues in the dishwasher, either, though I don't use the dry setting.

EDIT: Our microwave occasionally stops rotating. I didn't notice and it melted a portion of the bottom while leaving most popcorn unpopped and the rest scorched. It still works in spite of the damage, but I now know it has to be moving.

This little popper is expensive but worth every penny. I’m glad I bought it and here’s why. The red top, cover and bottom are made with silicone so they don’t get hot. The top indention in the cover is for measuring the kernels and I use two instead of one and it pops almost to the top. No worry about chemicals in microwave bags any longer and I can choose my own healthy organic Great Northern popcorn, avocado oil and sea salt. Oil is optional. I like Great Northern because it’s fresh and crunchy. I just wish I had ordered the larger three quart size popcorn maker but this is fine as I make two batches. This is a good size for kids or when you just want a little snack.

The simple design was pleasant and fits in the kitchen. It is nice having a small air popped popcorn maker that doesn't have a cord attached and give a little more versatility. The ability to have the butter drop in as they are popping was a fun feature to help get it started before I even pull it out of the microwave. The handle felt a little cheap compared to the rest of the product but is sturdy so may be deceiving.

Received today - the day after Prime Day. I made this spontaneous purchase because ...well just because. This little bugger is a real keeper. Annually, the cost of this plus some store purchased kernels is going to be much cheaper than my microwave popcorn AND I can add my own flavors! It is very thin glass. I would never put it in the dishwasher. How dirty can it it anyway? It's popcorn!

Quite honestly I wasn't sure what to expect out of a popcorn maker since I always made it the conventional way. But after seeing this,I decided to give it a try and I am very pleased at how convenient popcorn making has become. I am very happy it is made up of borosilicate glass and bpa free material.

If you like popcorn, I think that you will like this Quisinart Microwave Popcorn Popper. I was doing the regular packaged microwave popcorn for a while. But that gets expensive, and who knows what the butter flavor stuff is made of... Then, I tried a air popper, and I had popcorn everywhere. Plus there is the set-up and tear down of all of the equipment... it just takes a while, which is tough when you are craving popcorn now! So, my cousin about this Quisinart popper. You just put the popcorn kernels in the bowl, put the lid on it, and throw it in the microwave for about two and a half minutes, and the popcorn is ready. Of course you you can put some butter in a little bowl to melt for the last 20 seconds or so, and then add a little salt, and that works too. It just depends how big your popcorn craving is.
Anyway, this is a great device for making popcorn quick and easy. It is one bowl, one lid (unless you do the butter thing). It cleans up quick and easy. When you go to put it away, it folds up nice and flat I’m thinking about getting one of these to throw in my suitcase when I travel. It saves you money, because you can buy just regular cheap popcorn. It’s healthy, because you know exactly what you put in there (I come to enjoy just plain popcorn now). It doesn’t make a big mess, it easy to clean up. There is no set up or tear down.
So, that’s why I say, “If you like popcorn...”

Martin R.

And remarkably, it does all Cuisinart says it will do. Even better, in my 1200 watt microwave it takes only 2 minutes 10 seconds to pop 1/3 cup of kernels.

Angélica Amorim Amato

This popcorn maker is fantastic. Healthy popcorn without any mess. The time needed to prepare popcorn varies with the microwave, but if you monitor the noise and there is no corn popping for 3 seconds, it is time to switch the microwave off. I did this and the popcorn was great! Nothing burned.

This popcorn popper is wonderful. Not only is it highly efficient, it is easily cleaned. There are some basic rules to using it, however. Don't put anything in the popper, EXCEPT popcorn kernels! It says so on the directions!

What not to do:

My father decided to be smart, and instead of popping the popcorn alone, he poured salt and oils in it with the popcorn kernels and this made a big mess when he started heating it in the microwave. This is NOT how you are supposed to use it. The extreme temperature inside the popper turned the popcorn, oil, salts into a black burnt, sticky substance previously unknown to man. The microwave wreaked of burnt popcorn and death itself forcing me to research how to "fix" microwaves that had burnt popcorn inflicted upon them and after boiling vinegar inside it in a glass, then wiping it out as instructed by the internet denizens the microwave was salvaged. I actually thought my dad ruined the microwave, that's how bad this smell was. It was fixable, though, thanks to vinegar!

So in a nutshell, if you use this popper properly, you will love it. My dad no longer tries to outsmart the popper, and uses it according to how it ought to be used and we have had no issues with it since then. Also, my dad loves to make popcorn with this thing, you literally just pour 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels into the popper, put it on 2 minutes or so in the microwave, and this popper completely pops nearly all kernels without burning the popcorn. It's pretty amazing!

If you want seasoning on the popcorn, or salt, oils, etc. you must put these on AFTER the popcorn has popped, and the popcorn is in ANOTHER container. I try to keep all other substances away from the popper and only put popcorn kernels in it.

What is neat is you learn there are many types of popcorn, and they all have different flavors on their own. We have popped typical yellow "corn" popcorn, and then tried a "Amish baby white" popcorn type which reminds me of popcorn they used to sell at public places like the fair etc.

If used properly, this popper is far more efficient than any fancy large oil-cooking popcorn maker in my opinion. This popper is small, cheap, and cleaning it is as simple as rinsing it with water and a little bit of soap. I am so glad I bought this instead of one of the fancy popcorn makers.

Critic at large

I assumed this was pure silicone when I ordered it. Received it, it fails the pinch test. It apparently has filler and is not 100% silicone. I ordered a Colonel Popper which is 100% silicone.
I then tried to make popcorn.
It is amazing. Perfect popcorn. Nice, fluffy, dry, tastes great to me without oil and salt. Very healthy.
Our LG microwave has a popcorn button that uses humidity sensor to determine when to stop cooking. It works perfectly with this popper. Amazing! Just throw in some popcorn (between low and high fill marks), slap the cover on it, throw it in the microwave and a few mindless minutes later, perfect popcorn!

I assumed the Colonel popper would do the same except with pure silicone. I don't understand the difference but it doesn't work with our microwave. Guaranteed burned popcorn IF we use the popcorn button on our microwave. If we manually time it or stop it it works great. And it goes lots more than this one.

Overall the Colonel popper isn't worth the hassle for me and my microwave. This popper (as seen on TV, etc.) works great. Doesn't require any special timing for me. That outweighs any assumed benefit of having pure silicone. So we're keeping this one and returning the Colonel Popper.

Amazon Customer

This is the fifth popper that I have purchased. I bought one for myself and the other four went to family members who are ecstatic. It is easy to use and makes the best popcorn ever. I might warn that it is best not to put the butter in the popcorn When you are popping it. It works out better to put the butter on after it is popped.

I've tried microwave popcorn bowls before and was not impressed by them so when a friend recommended this item to me I was certain that this would be another waste of money. His recommendation was in response to my complaint of "I just want to eat some good popcorn that's easy to fix and doesn't have all the chemical junk in it like the microwave bags have!" and he assured me that this would fit the task.

So, I bought it. Wasn't very expensive, why not give it a try? It arrived and I put it beside the sink to wash the next day. A week later, there it sat. Two weeks go by, still it sat there. I didn't want to try it. I knew I would be ticked off at another worthless item that over promised and under delivered. How hard can it be to microwave popcorn with little to no scorching, high kernel pop rate and ease of use?

As I drew closer to a month of this thing sitting by my Kitchen sink I think, "Wasted money or not, it's sure as heck being wasted right now!" so I washed it and the lid dried them well and looked up the directions .pdf from the multiple emails sent to me by the company, followed them to the letter and...what do ya know? Tasty popcorn that was easy to make, didn't scorch, the container didn't burn like kissing a tailpipe.

I tried another batch and used some spices. Scorched! Ok, lesson learned. Add things like that after it's cooked (I'm not terribly bright).

This is a wonderful product. Follow the directions and you should be happily munching away on popcorn any time you wish. It folds up nicely for storage, fits in the smallest microwaves (mine is the smallest sold by a national retailer) and the best part...NO HULLS STUCK IN MY TEETH! Seriously, I can't remember the last time I ate popcorn and didn't have to spend 3 days picking hulls out of my gums and teeth.

If you a popcorn fan and don't like the idea of all the chemicals they put in the microwave bags and don't want to buy another small appliance to put on your counter just so you can have good popcorn...buy this thing. You'll be pleased I'm certain!

Steel

This product works perfect, as described. For the people that did not get it to work, they are obviously not following the directions. If you fill it to the appropriate line - for me it was ¼ cup, set your microwave to about 2-2.5 minutes, stay with the popper until the popping slows, and avoid putting anything in the popper other than popcorn, it will work 100% of the time.

For the people that it did not work for, they are undoubtedly not following one of those steps. I add a little olive oil and Himalayan Pink Salt afterwards for a delightful treat. Gourmet or organic popcorn works better for me - from a taste and texture perspective.

Enjoy!

Many years ago, I was an assistant manager at a movie theater and I used to enjoy making the popcorn right as guests were coming in for shows. Now, each year around Christmas time, I start seeing a bunch of kettle poppers as gift ideas and I get the urge to buy one for myself. Then, reality sets in and I remember how much of a pain it was to clean those things AND I don't really have anywhere to store it. Same for the air popper... I already have a bunch of small kitchen appliances, which I rarely use, taking up all my cabinet space. So, this year, when a relative mentioned she used her air popper all the time, but it recently died, I started looking around for a replacement. When I saw these collapsible microwave poppers, I thought it was a great idea and I decided to give it a try. At the movie theater, we used peanut oil, flavacol seasoning, and high quality popcorn kernels. So, I ordered all of those items and put about 2 tsp peanut oil in the bottom of the bowl, poured about 1/3 cup of kernels, and about 1/2 tsp of the flavacol. Put the lid on and set the microwave for 3 minutes. I was a little worried about using the oil because I didn't want to scorch the bottom of the bowl, but it turned out great. I stayed in the kitchen and as soon as the popping slowed down to just a few seconds between each pop, I turned the microwave off. The bowl is advertised as both a popper and a serving bowl, but if you plan to use it for serving you will need to wait awhile before trying to hold it because the bottom of the bowl stays hot. I ended up using a towel to hold it while we were watching TV instead of pulling out another bowl to dump it in. The popcorn turned out great, there were not that many unpopped kernels in the bottom of the bowl, and when we were done, I just put it on the top shelf of the dishwasher! (Much easier than trying to scrub out one of those kettle units)

I had one of these that lasted for years, being used about 2 times a week. When the lid finally warped so popcorn kernels were jumping out all over the microwave, I decided to try the newer style of collapsible silicone poppers. If you're trying to decide between the two styles of poppers, the Nordic Ware one is far superior. This has a lip so you can pick it up without scalding your fingers, which the silicone ones don't. Also this one pops more evenly, and it's easy to tell when the popping has slowed. Because of the style of the raised base, you can put the hot bowl in your lap and not burn your thighs. It's also easier to butter the popcorn in this one, because of the flared shape of the bowl; the silicone ones are deep and straight, so you can't toss the popcorn as well to evenly distribute the butter. I also got far fewer unpopped kernels with this Nordic Ware one. This is such a good popper, but as the trend seems to be towards the silicone ones, I'm ordering several of these Nordic Ware ones to keep for future years, in case they become unavailable.

Love how quick and easy it is to use! I had one previously and gave it away thinking that an air popper would be a better alternative. Well let’s just say that most kernels were knocked out before they had a chance to pop.
With this, I “preheat” the microwave by heating a mug of water for a minute or two. Then I preheat a teaspoon of coconut oil it it for 30 seconds on high. Then add a 1/3 cup of organic popcorn. Stir to cover Kerman’s in oil. Return to microwave. Set it for 3 minutes. The popping usually slows at around 2-1/2 minutes. Listen and be prepared to stop it before you burn your corn. Immediately remove the lid to allow steam to escape. Add butter, salt, or any season you like. Personally, I love Johnny’s GarlicSpread seasoning with a little butter. Yum! Can’t get enough!

With all the chemicals and unhealthy oils in prepackaged microwave popcorn, I was looking for an option for making our own healthier version and I think this Nordic Ware Popper fits the bill quite well, at a very reasonable price. I wanted to be able to use healthy oils, such as coconut or ghee, and add my own seasonings or salt and I liked that you could add these before popping, if desired. I chose this style over the collapsible silicone versions, as other silicone items I have tend to be hard to clean, especially if using oils that solidify. This one washes up very easily, and can be put in the dishwasher. It has taken a bit of trial and error to get the knack of achieving a perfect batch, and we did have quite a few no-pops and some scorches in the learning curve, but it is worth the trouble to find the right timing, technique, popcorn type, etc., for your own situation. When you get it right, you have delicious, crisp, healthy popcorn to suit your own tastes at a fraction of the cost of the unhealthy bags. I have experimented with adding 1-2 tablespoons of oil, along with Flavacol theatre-style popcorn seasoning before cooking. I have had better results preheating the oil and seasonings (along with the bowl) first, adding 1/3 C popcorn and swirling in the hot oil in the bowl, then cooking on highest level for a little more than 4 minutes. I did find that using oil tends to splatter the walls of the microwave due to the ventilation slots on the sides of the lid. This is easily remedied by draping an open napkin or paper towel kitty-corner over the lid while popping. So far, the popper and lid show little signs of use, no warping of the lid or discoloration yet, so I am hopeful that this popper will perform well over the long haul.

UPDATE:
I am 10 months in with using this bowl regularly, and it has definitely held up to it's original standard! I still wash it in the dishwasher (top shelf) and it has definitely kept up with my regular use. The only complaint is that the brown spot on the bottom (from using too much oil) had grown a touch, but it hasn't affected the flavor and definitely still seems safe to use.

Yeah so I like popcorn a lot. Like a lot. This bowl has saved me so so much money since I bought it 6 months ago. Kernels are so much cheaper than the instant bags, and the air popper can let you make healthier popcorn or flavor it your own way. This air popper has two different fill lines, for one serving and for two. If you fill it to the two serving line, it'll pop the lid up so that it just rests on the mountain of popcorn teeming out of the bowl.

When I bought this, POPCO sent me an emailed pdf with literally hundreds of popcorn recipes. However I've found my favorites to be either avocado oil and sea salt or olive oil, sea salt, rosemary, and lemon.

The only issue with this is that it can be difficult to clean if you are an avid hand-washer. It comes clean in the dishwasher though, and I've put both the lid and the bowl on the top shelf regularly. I use this basically everyday (I told you I really like popcorn) and it hasn't shown any signs of wear other than some brown parts on the bottom when I used too much olive oil.

All in all, what an amazing buy. If you're looking for a way out of junk food, this is such a power move.

Pro tip: look up oils and their smoke point before using this. If you use oils with a higher smoke point (like avocado) your popcorn will be less likely to be burnt and you'll avoid the brown spot I got in the bottom of mine when I used olive oil. Also, keep in mind that your microwave times will be different based on what you put on it (and honestly you can just put naked kernels in and be fine).

First, there are many brands of this style silicone popper, and I suspect they all work about the same. I chose this particular one based on .... the colors available. LOL. Had to have purple. I did read reviews first, too.

It took me about two weeks to find the perfect set of conditions for popping, and now I am completely satisfied. Currently, I use no oil for popping, Redenbacher popcorn only, filled to first line, at 3 minutes on my 1100 watt microwave. Generally around 10 kernels left unpopped. It pops to about 2" below the top. No scorched or burned popcorn. Perfect, fluffy, tasty popcorn. I use a few sprays from a can of butter flavored canola oil popcorn spray, just enough for some powdered seasoning to stick to it. Very happy.

Prior to figuring out the perfect times and popcorn brands, I did experience burnt kernels, scorched popcorn, and excessive unpopped kernels. I tried several brands, before deciding the more expensive Redenbacher was best. I tried different power settings and times, as well as varying between the first and second line and in between. The optimal results were what I listed above. I recommend doing the same, experiment until you find the perfect settings/brands. The main variable here will be the microwave oven you use. Once you find the perfect combination of filling line, time, and brand, you will have perfect popcorn every time!

This is one of those products I am endlessly recommending to others, or outright buying it for them. It is in my top ten, maybe even top five, of my Best Purchases of All Time. See also: fuzzy logic rice cooker.

I love popcorn. Oil makes a mess and cleanup sucks. Air poppers make it stale and bone dry. Microwave bags are just junk food. This, on the other hand, makes perfect popcorn and retains just enough steam to give you big fluffy kernels with all their flavor. Then I just top it with whatever I want (my method is Olivio olive-oil based buttery spray (0 calories), salt and pepper. Pepper is totally worth it.) The bowl is super easy to clean with a sponge or even the dishwasher. This is my third, but only because I broke one (no easy feat!) and then I realized I’d rather have two than share popcorn with my wife. She doesn’t want pepper anyhow.

1/3 cup of popcorn from the fridge.
3ish minutes on high
Listen for the pops to slow way down and pull it. I’m pretty sure I’ve never burned the popcorn in this thing.

This simple bowl consistently makes the best, most consistent popcorn I have ever made at home. Better than the top brand of microwave popcorn, better than several stovetop poppers I've used over the years, and better than an electric popper I used and liked for several years. And all this with inexpensive, store brand popcorn.

I have used this bowl for a year or more, it holds up well, we use it in our office almost everyday. Just figure out the time you need for your microwave, it makes fluffy no oil popcorn, so much better than the microwave crap in packages in our opinion. We just add butter and salt after popping. It does get hot, so be careful.

I've bought microwave contraptions before that have failed spectacularly, so pleasantly surprised how well this one from Goodful worked. Just fill up the top with kernels, toss them in the bowl, and microwave for 2-3 minutes, stopping when pops slow to a few seconds apart.

My popcorn came out beautify without a single burnt piece. Drizzled some oil and Flavacol on top and I was in heaven.

Notes: You can make a double batch and it pops okay, but the single batch came out slightly better, so I recommend that. Also, I used a 1100 Wat microwave.

During the first three popping sessions, I figured out the right settings on my microwave. I press the popcorn button, and then I add 60 seconds. It pops perfectly every time. I use 1/4 cup of kernels. I add a little olive oil or coconut oil. Sprinkle some salt in. Pop.

The bowl itself is well-made and feels sturdy, albeit flexible because it's made of silicone. The lid in particular surprised me with how thick and durable the plastic feels.

Other reviewers have mentioned that the bowl is hot. This seems like a non issue to me. I use a kitchen towel to remove and handle the bowl until it cools down after a couple minutes.

Also, I've already used the bowl for other things, like cooking bulgur wheat in the microwave. For anyone who avoids single purpose items in the kitchen, this is a useful bowl beyond making popcorn.

If you want to make popcorn, this is a great way to do it.

Great little popcorn maker. I usually make popcorn on the stove with Amish popcorn Dutchman’s coconut oil and flavacol. It makes the best movie style popcorn. When I got this little toy I tried my Amish popcorn and my usual combination and it didn’t pop. Then I realized my Amish popcorn was past its date and I pulled out a new bag. The new bag popped perfectly and it’s so much easier than sitting over the stove waiting for the popcorn to pop shaking the pot the whole tome. But I will say when you pull it out of the microwave it is super hot! So make sure you put mitts on and there is condensation that accumulates on the lid so it might drip on you if you’re not careful. You also wanna take the lid off right away so that condensation doesn’t get back on on to the popcorn and make it mushy or not as crunchy. So my takeaways from this are used fresh popcorn wear oven mitts when you’re removing the popcorn from the microwave and take the lid off right away. Follow this and it will be perfect every time.
