EAS

pH of 5.5 which is exactly what skin needs to NOT grow acne or harbor bacteria. Not drying, doesn't irritate skin. I waited till I was 3/4 of the way done with the bottle to write this review. Non foaming which you get used to. Rinses very easily. A new Holy Grail Cleanser to replace your ichy Cetaphil (ph of 6.8! YUCK)

nycgirl

This has the same milky, non-foaming texture as Cetaphil and Cerave, but is visibly better and faster at dissolving makeup and dirt -- clean rinsing, no need to "tissue off", and no need for "double cleansing". Takes literally just a few rubs to breakdown makeup, vs the longer emulsifying time of Cetaphil and Cerave, both of which don't take off mascara very well. But Toleriane does the job! Face is left sparkling clean with no residual, but not feeling tight or dry.

Innocuous and simple ingredient listing, reasonably priced. If you like Cerave/Cetaphil, or "one-step" moisturizing cleansers like Philosophy Real Purity, or Fresh's Soy Face Cleanser, this is up your alley.

I'm in my 30s, and I still have tricky skin - if I use anything too harsh, I dry out; anything too creamy, I break-out. I feel like I'm in a constant back & forth between the two, to basically un-do what the last cleanser did. I saw this product listed in a Buzzfeed article, and gave it a shot. It's amazing. It doesn't dry out my skin like Cetaphil, and doesn't make me break-out like some anti-aging cleaners do. I had never even heard of this brand before, but now I'm a fan.

I’ve been using this product for over a year and a half now after I had a particularly bad case of what appeared to be rosacea on my face. (I have not had an official diagnosis of rosacea but it certainly looked like rosacea.) This occurred when I was under a lot of stress due to an alarming medical diagnosis. I think my anxiety over the medical issue triggered the skin problem.
A friend who has suffered from rosacea for years noticed the eruptions on my face and told me what she does for her rosacea. She told me not to use soap and to use something for sensitive skin that is free of soap. The product that she uses was quite expensive. So I looked around to see what else might work and found the Neutrogena Hydrating Facial Cleanser which cost much less than the product that she uses.
No soap for my face any more! I have been using Neutrogena Hydrating Facial Cleanser regularly since then. At first I was using it twice a day, morning and evening. Currently I use it just in the morning. I have been very happy with the results.
Even before the very visible skin issue that I experienced a year and a half ago, I had had small eruptions for many years that I wondered about as to whether they were due to rosacea but they were too minor for me to ask my doctor to make an official diagnosis. Using the Neutrogena product, I am now pleased not to have those small eruptions and thrilled not to get a recurrence of that major eruption.
My skin has been sensitive to fragrances in ingredients before these recent problems so I had used hypoallergenic soaps previously and continue to use those when I am taking a shower but do not use them on my face. I no longer use any soap on my face. I do rinse my face well after massaging it with the Neutrogena cleanser just on the slight chance that there might be something in it that could cause any skin problem. After wetting my face, I gently massage a small amount onto my face for 60 seconds and then gently rinse very well. This works for me.
The photos I've uploaded are a "before" image from 2019 and a recent photo showing how my face looks now.

I found this cleanser by watching Dr. Dray videos, she highly recommends this. The ingredients are gentle and it cleans my face well each night (while not stripping my face and making it dry). I do agree with another reviewer on how to use this cleanser. You have to take a pump or two and rub it into your face DRY, no water at first (think of it like a cleansing balm and cleanser in one). Rub it all around, even on your eye make up. Then, with lukewarm water, wash it all off. All my makeup and greasiness from the day come off, yet my skin still feels supple.

DiggerGirl

I have dry, sensitive skin, and am allergic to many facial products, including many labeled hypoallergenic, and for sensitive skin. This cleanser is fantastic. It removes make-up, but leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. Best of all, I'm not allergic to it. Thanks, Neutrogena!

After years of white heads, ginormous enlarged pores, mild acne turned to a cystic mess, I've found a product that has worked wonders for my skin. My dermatologist asked me to switch to this (I was earlier using Neutrogena's Oil Free salicylic face wash that she thought was extra harsh on my skin, and she was right!) This Cetaphil cleanser does not lather but that does not mean it's not doing its job. It's mild, fragrance-free, clears out your skin in a matter of weeks - and all I've been doing is washing my face with this twice a day and dabbing on moisturizer. This stuff works!
PS. Stay away from the gentle cleanser if you have problematic skin. It does the opposite of what this does.

Honest Tree

Friends, please don’t misjudge this product by expecting it to be Cetaphil’s regular cleanser, known as “Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser.” This product, namely “Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser,” sold by this seller is completely legit. They are two completely different products. This cleanser is meant to be opaque, whitish in color.

My dermatologist recommended it to me two years ago when I unexpectedly developed rosacea on my cheeks. Prior to that, I always had normal, unproblematic, acne-free skin. I’ve been using it ever since. It is indeed gentle and soothing. I don’t use it to remove makeup. I don’t think it was made to effectively remove my makeup or my spf 50 sunscreen. That’s okay, as I use another tried and true one-step facial cleanser at night. I use this, Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser, first thing in the morning, followed by a gentle exfoliator or a holy-grail toner I’m wedded to. This cleans my skin, and sets a calm clean canvas for me to then use the rest of my skincare regimen (toner, serums, moisturizer & spf). I no longer suffer from rosacea now, thanks to this (and without any Rx). I also can count on this gentle cleanser to calm my skin when I try a new product that unexpectedly irritates me.

So, please don’t hate this if you expected it to be another, completely different product by Cetaphil. As this is just my experience, my opinion, I understand if this product didn’t work for you, or if it unexpectedly irritated your skin. Finally, if you’re concerned about parabens, I get it. I steer away from parabens normally. But check out how it’s listed last on this product. That’s a good thing. More importantly, look up what seasoned consumer advocate turned beauty guru and manufacturer, Paula Begoun (of Paula’s Choice), opines about parabens in skincare. See beautypedia.com.

Braulio González

Ciao friends, please don’t misjudge this product by expecting it to be Cetaphil’s regular cleanser, this is really is for all skin types I was dealing with some back fungal acne, and this was the only product that can really help and for people with normal skin you wouldn't need to apply a moisturizer.

Pro's
- Cheap you get your money worth
- Cleans very nice without stripping the oils from your face the ones that you need.
- Feels like a cream
-Dermatologist-recommended

Cons

None what so ever please just buy if you have fungal acne and just for Gentle Skin.

I had a laser halo and IPL treatment done. This is the cleaner they recommended I use not only post op treatment but continually. They sent me home with a small sample the day of my treatment. I was so pleasantly surprised how gentle this was. No burning, easily rinsed away. Very Soothing. There is No scent at all. Zero!
I highly recommended this cleanser for sensitive skin or regular skin. It’s the perfect cleanser to run over your eyelids to remove mascara … even water proof mascara. Winner. Winner!

Love this brand and how it makes my skin feel. Does not strip my skin at all but is effective enough to keep my oily forehead clean and works great for my acne-ridden, dry, sensitive skin. Won't use anything else in the winter, that is for sure. And the 20oz bottle for that price? It can't be beat.

Beverlina

I can feel the protective layer and seal that this leaves on my skin. I’m using it on my face in the shower but I find that it’s lovely to add dabs of it on other body areas that are feeling a bit parched. Makes a difference!

I swear, I have the most sensitive skin on the planet. I've had combination skin my whole life, am acne-prone due to my sensitivities, and easily dry out with most cleansers or when the weather is harsh. I also have dealt with bouts of perioral dermatitis. This is the ONLY cleanser that has worked for me to combat everything I have just mentioned. I initially tried this cleanser thinking it might work to remove the residual redness and dryness around my mouth leftover from the bout with the perioral dermatitis. I literally washed my face with this one evening, and the NEXT DAY my skin had quieted down. So I kept at it, and now I have the clearest, smoothest, softest skin I have EVER had. And I've struggled with my skin for ages. No more constant breakouts. No more redness. No more flaking, irritated skin. No more perioral dermatitis. The oily spots on my skin seem to be more in control now. I could walk out the door with no makeup on now and feel completely fine, which I have NEVER been able to do. I'm just amazed by this stuff and I hope it's never discontinued. I HIGHLY recommend it!

I bought this after much research and review-scouring, and I’m so glad I did. I have been trying to repair the moisture/lipid barrier on my face, and needed a cleanser with the right balance to aid in that process. Washing with Vanicream cleanser is great because it removes things like sunscreen & light makeup but it will not leave your skin feeling stripped or tight.

It’s “fragrance free” but does have a somewhat medicinal smell to it. It’s not too bad, but don’t expect it to smell like absolutely nothing. As for the consistency, many gentle cleansers don’t foam up but this one does.. it’s actually more of a lather than a bubbly foam. I’ll attach a photo so you can see how it is in the bottle vs. after washing with it.

Overall I would recommend this cleanser to anybody and everybody and would give it 10 stars if allowed. It’s help nurse my skin back to health and made me realize harsh/abrasive cleansers aren’t necessary to get the job done!

The All-Seeing I

After a lifetime of skin-tearing rashes and high-inflammation acne -- on my face and other dejecting places -- my dermatologist diagnosed me with "contact dermatitis" sparked by additives in skincare products, with "fragrance" or "parfum" my big nemesis. I changed everything I used to groom or scent myself, with Vanicream products as my go-to. With my face as my storefront, it's this Gentle Facial Cleanser I rely on the most.

It dispenses pearly and opaque, and is light and luxurious on the face, surfacing grease and dirt while hydrating. It's lack of smell was odd, but I got past it, and the results are life-affirming: I'm pimple- and rash-free, my skin is soft, and I feel no less clean and presentable. I'm thrilled.

For those with acne, eczema, psoriasis, and/or contact dermatitis, eliminating fragrances and additives may be a huge leap forward. I wish you the best! - (Was this of use? If so, let me know by clicking "Helpful." Cheers!)

I have been acne-prone more years than I have not at this point. I used drugstore systems in high school with no luck. I used Proactive in college, which helped reduce my big breakouts but made my face so red and still left me with acne. I have since started using gentler products with great results. MY SKIN IS THE BEST IT HAS BEEN IN 2 DECADES. No more greasy forehead or red, irritated chin.

I currently wash with this morning and night - so gentle, no chemical Proactive-like smell. I'm glad they offer a travel-size pump too! At night, I use Curology cream. In both the mornings and night, I use Skinn by Ann Webb moisturizer (available on Amazon) - usually the guava with zinc/sunscreen, but occasionally heavier stuff.

Remember to give yourself a couple of months with a new routine to really see how it's working, especially when you're going to a gentler routine.

I really don't like the winter. It's so cold and all day sitting inside the heating room. My skin become so dry and sensitive. I didn't like the other cleaning product that I used. After a while of looking and browse so many reviews. I'm super happy what I found here. I only use a bit of amount than it could totally clean my whole face. I really enjoy wash my face while massage it. And I can feel my face become very smooth and feel so good with no 'dry' feeling at all. I'm super happy about the result. I might more update review after few more weeks of use it.

My dermatologist sells the whole Elta MD line, and no other skin care other than prescription products. The dermatology practice probably makes a cut for selling products, and the fact that this is their only line tells me it’s their favorite. They could profit from other lines, but they choose not to. I’ve used Elta MD products for many years (15 or so) and they never fail to keep my skin healthy. I have great skin, according to my dermatologist. It seems ridiculous to pay more money for luxury retail brands that are scented with irritating oils and perfumes and who knows what else? Just because a company claims an ingredient works magically in their own clinical tests, doesn’t mean it actually works in reality. It’s not like they’re going to say “Please pay $150.00 an ounce for this cream made from weeds that grow alongside the freeway. We figure the weeds must be good for skin because they survive all that exhaust.”

This cleanser is excellent; gentle and thorough. I like the way it feels when it foams. My kids use this as well. Two of them battle with acne and this really helps keep their skin ready for their prescriptions.

I like ordering Elta on Amazon because it’s faster than a trip to the doctor’s office. Amazon costs the same as I pay in office and products gets delivered for free.

I typically don't like foam cleansers, but this one is a game-changer. Not drying AT ALL. I agree with other reviewers that the foam dissipates quickly, BUT....if you wash your face a second time with this, the lather/foam is much more copious and long-lasting. Even with a second wash, my skin does not dry out (and I have very dry skin). I really like this product and I hope Cetaphil never discontinues it.

I have been using Cetaphil products for many years on the recommendation of a doctor along time ago. I have very sensitive skin and am allergic to most fragrances. I have always really liked Cetaphil soaps, lotions and creams. But this is my new favorite! I love how it foams as you pump it out. There’s no fragrance and it lathers wonderfully all over your skin. Really wonderful product! It’s great as a hand soap and as a bath soap....just love it!

RShia

Love this wash so much. It was recommended by a doctor on YouTube and I really love this. It doesn’t dry out my skin, actually the opposite and it’s perfect for my combination/oily skin. It works up to a rich later.

I have combination skin, but most products tend to dries my face causing discoloration, but this face wash is perfect. My face never felt this smooth. It really cleans without drying the face.

My daily face wash now. I had really bad acne after trying the retinol and I kept reading that you have to stick with it and get through the purge. I lasted 2 weeks! I’ve never had that much acne in my life! I stopped using it and expected my skin to return back to normal and it wasn’t improving fast enough. I switched my cleaner from the gentle skin cleanser to this one and today my skin is acne free. Don’t get me wrong, I get pimples here and there but most of the time since I’ve been using this, my acne breakouts happen less frequently. Try this! It has no scent, it’s a thick cream and for me personally, it doesn’t dry my face out. Cetaphil always have good products! Thank you!!

fordervet

Hands down the best SA cleanser, no unneeded dyes or artificial fragrances! The most common sensitive skin problem that I run into with other cleansers (*cough* Differin's gentle skin line *cough*) is they're insanely overdrying and will cause skin to become irritated, more inflamed and continue to peel even well after the normal and expecting skin purging period... I didn't experience that with this cleanser! But the best part of all is after adjusting my skin to this cleanser for less than a month, it completely shrinked the pores around my t-zone and helped reduce the hyperpigmentation of my inflammed cystic acne scars. Also, (if you're willing to pay for it) accompanied with the gentle clear mattifying moisture, it's a match made in heaven for my skin! It weirdly solved the issue I have when seasons change, my skin used to get extra oily during warmer and humid days and over dried during colder climates. So that's a bonus! 🙂
But it's a shame that this item is out of stock currently, 🙁 the only downsides with this product i found, would be the packaging... I wish this product could come with a pump like the other Cetaphil products for even distribution of the product. Also, I wish this product could have a mini version of it for traveling TSA reasons.
All in all, amazing product would definitely buy again in a heart beat, But I guess I'll have to buy it on a different website since Amazon doesn't have it stocked currently. 🙁

I started experiencing red, itching, burning, pealing skin on the face a few years ago. It started from eyelids, then around the mouth area surrounding the lips, and then spread to the forehead and nose. I applied different types of ointment and some helped for a while and some made me break out even worse. Meantime, I had to get rid of anything (cleansing solutions and cosmetics) that touches my face that I suspected potentially causing me the breakouts. As soon as I thought my skin was getting better, it would come back worse. I have been using "Cetaphil Restoraderm Pro, Eczema Calming Body Wash" for one and a half years due to my very dry legs from burn scars. Though I normally don't use the skin products from drug store, I grew to trust Cetaphil, so I gave this Cetaphil daily scrub a try. I started noticing the improvement at the end of one week and by the end of three weeks, my facial skin is completely clear. But I have to say its exfoliating power needs some more improvement. So I dared to use my old regular (non-cetaphil) exfoliating product the other day, followed by this Cetaphil scrub and I didn't experience any breakouts!

Amazon Customer

This was honestly a really decent product. I have oily skin that’s not very sensitive. This product is definitely geared towards someone with dry to normal skin that’s sensitive. It’s definitely good as a daily cleanser/exfoliator for those types of people because it’s not abrasive at all (you almost can’t even feel the little beads), but at least for me, it only got the very very top layer of the skin. This product should not be used to replace any kind of true exfoliating products you have; this is meant to be used pretty much as a daily cleanser that just very lightly exfoliates. It does pretty much exactly what it was intended to do.

Lynnie

It’s really weird seeing low star reviews for this because the customer purchased the wrong cleanser and is upset with the seller. I have combo skin that’s acne prone, this cleanser is prefect for it. It’s super gentle and had niacinemide in it that helps heal skin and shrink pores and balances oil production. I’ve tried other cleansers from this brand and they feel like you’re washing your face with lotion, this one actually foams and removes all make up.

I can't believe how well this washes my face! I wear heavy makeup to cover up my rosacea and it takes it off so well. It's SO light and airy and foamy. No irritation for me at all. Very happy with this. It was recommended by my dermatologist and I will continue to use this.

Tianna

Here's a bit of backstory: I have never before had sensitive skin. A bit of dryness occasionally, but even that was rare. I could use any product off of the shelf and it worked 95% of the time. That is, until I tried Neutrogena's 'Deep Clean' and it absolutely destroyed my skin. Within two days I had a bright red, peeling, itchy rash from my cheeks down. Anything and everything burned. The gentlest moisturizers, delicate soaps, even water. I couldn't go near my face.

And that's what caused me to break out. My face erupted into 100 mini volcanoes on a sea of peeling skin - well s***, now what?

An intense Amazon search ensued and I ended up selecting this product, and let me tell you, it's a life saver. It was the only product that did not burn my very irritated skin. The rash quickly cleared up (within 24 hours), the acne too - I'm happy to say I no longer look like a monster from a child's nightmares. It leaves your skin feeling silky smooth, clean, and well hydrated. I generally have slightly oily skin and I have not yet had a problem with this causing any excess oil, so that's a plus if you have combination skin like I do.

While it does say fragrance-free, it does have a very slight babyish scent to it.

Overall I am pretty happy with this face wash. It's good for acne, gentle enough to use on eye makeup, and leaves your skin feeling softer than a baby's bottom.

I have severe redness in my face that I’m sure is roscea since pretty much every face wash makes my face even worse i finally found this recommended on a website to calm my skin. It’s so soft and actually helps with the redness. I also haven’t broke out at all over the last 3 months which is pretty much a miracle because my skin always flares up. I highly recommend trying this if you have sensitive skin.
