I bought the Merrill Moab 2 Vent Mid Hiking boot because I felt they would be perfect for hiking across the Grand Canyon. The boots did not really need any breaking in, but I did not know that and I hiked in them almost every day for about 6 weeks while getting myself in shape for the Canyon. The boots loosened enough that I had to lace them fairly tight in order to keep my toes from jamming on long downhill stretches.

Just before heading to the Canyon, I replaced the Merrill insoles with aftermarket footbeds and gave them the oven treatment. This worked very well, and the Merrills were remarkably cool, extremely comfortable, slightly supportive for my ankles, and pretty protective on sharp rocky surfaces. I hiked across the canyon rim to rim, and also hiked top to bottom to top with side trips. All combined, with hikes in the Pacific Northwest and Arizona, I now have about 600-800 miles of occasionally very rough terrain in my Moabs, and I consider them my most comfortable boot. They are terrible for wet areas, so I bought a pair of waterproof Merrills that I will review when I get enough experience in them.

There are more expensive boots on the market, but I would not trade the Merrills for them when my goal is foot comfort. Overall, I am surprised that I like them so much because I am usually struggling with foot problems. Merrill will be my summer hiking boot until they disappoint me or I find something better. I have boots that cost twice as much, but I just don't wear them.

Got these for Mount Whitney, honestly I was underprepared and blessed by these boots.
Put them on a day before to walk and ensure a good fit, took off after 10 minutes. Next time I wore them was with heavyweight wool socks at 3 in the morning of the hike. These rocked the entire way, others were complaining 6-10 hours in their feet were sore and hurt, these kept them comfortable for the entire hike! We started at 4am ended at 8:30pm full day never did anything other than tighten them up a bit once. I highly recommend these.

I wear these boots daily at work and I am on my feet 6 to 7 hours a day on concrete and these boots are some of the best I have owned. They are lightweight and with the orthotic inserts which were a separate purchase provide comfortable support for my feet. I have tried athletic shoes which were almost the same price, they did not provide any where near the support and comfort that these Merrell Moab 2 provide. Do your feet a favor and get them some Merrell boots or shoes.

You won't find a better boot for this price. I laugh at anyone who cries about wet feet or wrong sizes. These aren't waterproof, but Water Resistant. Read the posting. Why cry about size with free returns? Just get another size. I'm so tired of the spoiled whiney culture in our country today. Anyway, These are made of Thick, tough, very good quality leather on a solid sole that will last. If you don't believe me Go check out Rose Anvil on YouTube. Dude cuts these up and shows what they are made of. On another note I contacted the company about size and fit. and they gave me a some great advice. Awesome customer service. They really care about helping you to be happy. I Highly recommend these boots.

I've had them for about a month and a half now and they've been put through the paces. I'd been looking for a pair of reliable work boots/hikers/shit kickers and seen Jim Green's presence in this group so I figured I'd give them a shot. They just recently got distribution within the states so I was able to order a pair through Amazon.

Price: $130 USD

Sizing: True to size. The last these are built on is quite roomy in the toe portion.

-Uniquely South African, eccentric branding/colors
-Goodyear welted
-Quality lug sole, very durable
-Padded ankle and tongue, the reinforcement makes them very easy to slip on and off- very comfortable to walk in because of the padding
-Leather lined, yellow calf lining in ankle portion
-Strong eyelets and speed hooks, I wasn't able to get them to bend by hand
-Celastic toe- steel toe versions also available
-Decent full grain leather, not Red Wing quality but good considering the price point.
-Minimal break-in required, as soon as I got them I was able to put them on and go to work

-Creasing along welt- this may be due to the custom orthotics I have inside of them, however.
-Prominent grain break on the vamp of the right boot
-***Stock insole is low quality, I immediately swapped them out for some custom insoles instead.

Verdict: Fantastic boots for the price. It's always a good idea to temper your expectations if something seems too good to be true, but these boots were a nice surprise. To the best of my knowledge the creasing/grain break could just be an issue with my pair, but ultimately it's a non-issue for me- I bought these to be work boots and hikers so I don't expect them to be pretty anyway.

***As far as the insole is concerned, Jim Green actually reached out to me (I also posted this review on YouTube) to let me know that the next batch of boots heading stateside will have leather/poron inserts- this won't change the price, either. Really cool to see them address criticism, good on them.***

One last thing regarding the construction- the midsole isn't leather, since it's $130. I'm not sure what the material is but it's flexible and seems to be pretty durable, so I doubt there will be any long-term issues.

It has become routine for me to expect new shoes to fail or have fatal design flaws making them unwearable. Whether this is due to global manufacturing standards and methods or other causes, it seems to be a problem in pricey labels and cheaper ones. A pair of new Merrells with the sole coming unstuck, Keens wearing out early, etc.

Got a pair of 'Vellies' from Jim Green and was really impressed with fit and function. These Razorbacks are right in there also. Although my left pinky toe was stubbed really badly a couple of weeks ago, these cradle the tender spot smoothly.

There are boots with thicker leather uppers or tougher soles (costing 2-3x as much), but I dare say, not better quality at this price. Only caveat, for me at any rate, is the need for an extra arch support under the supplied insole (which is excellent quality otherwise).

Hiked all over Glacier Park and the Grand Tetons in rainy, wet terrain and snow and my feet stayed warm and dry. Such a great purchase, highly recommend!

So these boots are amazing. I never write reviews although I read them all the time. This item hands-down deserves a review. They do not have much arch support and they do run just about a size small. So you’d wanna order a size higher. However a very very comfortable boot. And literally I was in the rain from 1 PM until 6:30 PM. Every single part of my body was soaking wet except my feet. The boots were wet on the outside but the warmest and driest thing on my body was my feet. These boots hands down not only made me write a review but they also kept me warm and dry. Also they are super cute on.I recommend these boots.

I like the materials and the fit I wear a 7and half in running shoes so I got size 8 perfect fit!!

My daughter loves it, she says is so comfortable, she is size 2, I decided to buy the 3.5 so she can used her insoles for pronation and flat feet for several months, not so hot as is summer, is flexible ankle cushioned, front shockproof, exactly what I was looking for as she should only wear boots. Also bought a pink pair for when we go out she can look more girly.

Carly Campbell

I bought a pair for each of my big kids age 6 and 8 in October. We hike very regularly and these boots are AWESOME! Months later they still look and function great. They have jumped across many creeks, climbed boulders and had many adventures in these boots and they have held up great. I love the easy velcro closures, too. I will absolutely buy these again. I am honestly surprised they have performed this well.

This was for my daughter to wear to school on snowy or rainy days. She told me that it was comfortable but snug lengthwise, her foot is normally sized so it must be a sizing issue from the manufacturer. Either way, the vendor was expedient in delivering the shoes and accepting the return. We are happy with the experience.

Put them on as soon as they arrived, hooked up the dog and went slogging through the snow.
Great fit, very comfortable right out of the box. Feet are dry. Snug enough that no snow got in over the top. No moisture got in anywhere. I tried.
I have neuropathy in my extremities, (a little present left from chemotherapy) and my feet feel like they're asleep all the time. If I don't keep something on them, they'll feel like they spread to take up the whole room, with round bottoms. Walking makes it worse, and after a while, they feel like they'll bust out of my shoes. I usually wear some good slippers, and just use shoes when I'm out and about. I've had these on all day, and they're as comfortable still as the slippers. I've made a point about being on my feet more than usual today.
Great traction on the ice, too.
Highly recommend them!
They're more comfortable than the Columbia's I've been wearing for 3- 4 years.
I've been buying Columbias for maybe 10 years. Their sizing is pretty accurate. (In a time when it seems every shoe maker has their own ideas about what constitutes a size 11, or 10 or 12 or whatever. No standardization any more.)

Erin Watson

I had three different shoes sent to me through Amazon’s try before you buy offer (which I liked very well). Other shoes were Keen and Skechers. These shoes were much more comfortable out of the box. I really like the light weight construction and would add that the construction is quality. I have had them for 3 months now and still like them very much. Great shoe for the price.

I am still in awe at how perfectly these fit my fit right out of the box and how incredibly comfortable these are!! They feel like they were custom molded to my feet. I thought being brand new there would be some break-in period - nope! They fit like a glove and are like walking on clouds. Seriously - they are so soft and so light yet sturdy and supportive I really lucked out getting these. And best part, I love the way they look.

*Update* 7/2022 my 9yr old still wears these and they are still great! He has about outgrew them so I will be purchasing another pair!

Son loves these. They are cute and lightweight and support his ankles. Great shoes for a good price especially for kids who outgrow shoes too quickly.
Wore for Trail life (Christian Boy Scouts but WAY BETTER) camp outs and held up to the hiking and horse play. Worn multiple times in dry weather and rain/mud. Tread and even the insets are all still in tact and good condition. I think he will outgrow them before he destroys them. Unusual for my boy

My 8 year old daughter liked these hikers. They are comfortable and cute! I wouldn’t think them to be as sturdy and durable as a high-end hiking boot, but for what we will be doing and for her age and continued growth, these will work great!

Hannah D

Want to do a lot of hiking this year so the kiddo needed something a little better than her thin tennis shoes but I didn't want to spend a fortune. These are nice boots for the price, she says they're very comfortable. We won't be doing anything too hard, I don't know how well these boots would hold up for heavier kids or more aggressive hikers, but for the moderate stuff we do they're great.

As far as the true story goes this is far far from it, almost made me laugh for the claiming of the basis.
But the movie is well shot and makes you feel like you are there sitting in the the tent with them. As someone who has personally experienced the terror of being separated from a large bear by nothing more than a canvas tent this is as close to the feeling as you want to get trust me. Turn the lights down watch it on a rainy night be patient it starts slow and then it's all suspense and truly terrifying.

J. West

This would definitely happen when you go camping in the middle of nowhere in the woods. The reality of these two trying to survive the wilderness but only one survives but I won't spoil that for you. Yes it's a little slow at first but every movie is like that. It's kind of like "The River Wild" except this bear is the true bad guy. Nothing like "Wrong Turn". In my opinion I thought this was really good surviving movie. You're just gonna have to watch it to see if you like it. Very well done but sad also. Great performances and roles by Jeff Roop, Missy Peregrym (FBI TV Series) and Eric Balfour (Skyline, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre). I recommend this movie if you like surviving in the woods. 👍

Michael Pitt

I watched this mainly because I've lived in in the deep woods, back east in the Appalachians, and up in the Northwest, so I didn't bother with the movies description. I was bored and, what the hell.. my brother took me to see the 1976 movie "Grizzly" right before I moved from So.California to the Smoky Mountains at age 13. Smart Bro! I was terrified some crazy bear was gonna get me. I've learned since how ridiculous that was! Well, ha, THIS movie has the awesome beauty, well done. It also (for me) took me right to that crazy place of fear again, what can you do when a creature that outweighs you 11-12× over, is eating you alive? Scream, that's it... i didn't think a movie could ever take me to that place again, so bravo! The boyfriend should have stayed at mammals house however.

I had been wearing a New Balance hiking shoe to do my yard work in, and it finally wore out, and New Balance had discontinued it.

I was looking for a boot to give me some ankle support, as my yard has a number of small hills that I need to push my lawnmower up and down.

I searched the Internet for "best value hiking boot", and this one showed up as #1 on the first two lists I found.

Wore them today for the first time, and I am hooked. I love the high ankle support, as well the lugs of the tread. I ordered my usual size, and they fit perfectly.

Can't say enough positive things about them, and nothing negative.

Andrew H.

Awesome the shoes came in they fit perfect thank you so much .. I’m going to use them for hiking I’ve had them before and they are excellent shoes the fit and feel !!

They're light weight. Easy to get on. Fits over swollen ankles with out a struggle. Roomy; my toes can wiggle around. Be able to wear with feet swollen or not; with thick or thin socks. Looks good on weather you are a man or woman ( especially with tights, leggings etc. for women in my opinion ). I ordered black color which will look good with black, gray, maroons colors for me. Glad not be upset for a change 😊.

Jay Salzman

I wanted something lighter weight when I ride my motorcycle. They are heavy enough for street and lighter than boots.

I do not get to hike much.I bought these mostly for Fall and Winter because I needed something comfortable, waterproof, supportive, with good traction so I would not slip and fall. These shoes worked out perfectly for all my needs. They were a style I really liked and very affordable.I love them!

Kathleen Harper

These were the first pair of hiking boots I have ever purchased. Generally I am not a hiker, but had planned a vacation out to the canyons out west. I used these boots over and over again. They were the most comfortable boots/shoes I have been in for a long time. I felt comfortable climbing on rocks, pebbles, through sand, and up steep slopes. I would recommend these boots to everyone. They fit well they gave good support.

These boots are awesome! 10/10 highly recommend. Without even breaking them in, I hiked about 8 miles in both mud and snow with these boots on and they were extremely comfortable.
